What is Integrative Medicine?

Integrative medicine is healing-oriented medicine that takes account of the whole person including all aspects of lifestyle. Both doctors and patients alike are bonding with the philosophy of integrative medicine and its preventative approach -- designed to treat the person, not just the disease.

Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is one of the oldest forms of integrative medicine in modern practice. AOMA offers student training in herbal medicine, acupuncture, and stress reduction techniques -- all in the effort to treat the whole person.

A Valuable Career

Patients are turning to more natural and holistic approaches to their health, making integrative medicine an in-demand career. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for acupuncturists is predicted to grow between 8 and 14 percent.

Salary

According to the 2016–17 Occupational Outlook Handbook from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, health diagnosing and treating practitioners, such as an acupuncturist, earn a median annual salary of $73,400.

A Degree

Like many other medical careers, an acupuncturist needs a graduate degree to practice. Both master’s and doctorate degrees are available from AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine.

At AOMA, the study of integrative medicine draws on the 2,000-year history of Chinese medicine which views the mind, body, and spirit as a single interrelated system. The Master of Acupuncture program provides a foundation for students' development into compassionate, effective practitioners who embody the spirit of this ancient and integrative medical practice. Each of the core components within AOMA's rigorous and comprehensive curriculum promotes mastery of an essential element of Chinese medicine.
